Roche Moutonnées Path
Walking Route
A short path to exploring the Roche Moutonnées. Around 18,000 years ago Dulnain Bridge lay deep under a sheet of glacial ice.
As the ice moved along, it ground down and shaped the bedrock bellow. The melting ice left smooth, exposed, rocky hillocks known as Roche Moutonnées. The name of these formations stems from the way in which these rounded rocks resembled the wavy wigs, or moutonnées, which men wore in the 18th century. Distance: 0.3 miles (0.5km) Approximate time: ½ hour Start: Roche Moutonnées Car Park Terrain: Uneven, narrow, earthy paths with short, moderate slopes.
