Walking Route
A rich and varied trail taking in Milton Woods and some of Aviemore’s hidden heritage. Prior to the arrival of the railway, Aviemore was only a small farming community with an inn.
This all changed with the arrival of the railway, which brought tourism to the area The railway also brought changes to the forests. Where once logs were floated downstream, now they were loaded onto rail wagons to be transported all over the world. The Strathspey Railway continues to preserve this rail heritage and runs steam trains from Aviemore to Broomhill. Distance: 3 ¾ miles (6km) Approximate time: 2 hours Start: Village Centre Terrain: Pavements and minor roads, as well as surfaced paths with some steep sections.
