River Tummel and Tummel Shingle Islands Nature Reserve
Tummel Shingle Islands reserve is one of the rarest habitats to be found in the UK - freshwater shingle. The shingle provides an ever-changing environment in which invertebrates and over 400 species of plants thrive, ranging from lesser marshwort and bird's-nest orchid to mosses and field gentian.There are a number of shingle islands on this reserve, attracting oystercatchers, common terns and redshanks.
