Moredun Hill Fort
The Moredun Hill Fort was built over 2,000 years ago and is the largest of the hill forts in the Tay estuary area with a surface area as largest as two football pitches. Archeological investigation has revealed that the ancient walls that once stood here protected a stone and timber citadel. The biggest house found on the site was circular and measured around 10m (33ft) across. This house would have been one of many which once stood on this land, and the fort was no doubt home to many families.
During pictish times, a tribal leader names Unust was struggling to keep control of the southern Pictland and so engaged his rival, Alpin, in a bloody battle on here in 728 AD. Luckily for Unust, he won!
