Dunkeld & Birnam Train Station
With their stunning natural beauty and close proximity to the South of Scotland, the villages of Dunkeld and Birnam have been popular resorts for visitors to the Highlands since the mid 19th century. As such, the Dunkeld & Birnam Station was built to impress and is a fine example of Scottish Railway Architecture designed by architect Andrew Heiton Junior. With a multi-gabled and near-symmetrical design, the Station building dates back to 1856 and is now one of only 3 stations on the Highland Mainline Railway to be classified as a Grade A listed building. The station’s Signal Box to the east of the station is similarly listed, having been built by the Highland Mainline company in 1919.
Highlights from here include the Birnam Oak, the Birnam Arts and Beatrix Potter Exhibition, and the ancient Dunkeld Cathedral.
